Pull can refer to two different things in Diablo 3. First of all, "Pull" can be used as a way of starting combat with monsters. One group member Pulls a monster or attracts a monsters to engage in battle. While the monsters are engaging that group member, the other group members deal damage to that monster or group of monsters that were Pulled.
Pull is also a type of effect that allows characters to attack or damage (usually ranged) enemies and then pull them closer. This is especially useful for Melee characters that have to deal with ranged enemies. The Pull effect gives Melee characters the ability to get close to ranged enemies and deal considerable damage, before the ranged enemy starts to flee again. Pulling Ranged enemies as a Melee Class can be extremely useful in the PvP arena.
Pull has the opposite effect of Knockback.
