Stun is a type of Control Impairing Effect in Diablo 3. Stun effects will cause a victim to be unable to move or perform most actions for a period of time. Stuns can be used as Offensive or Defensive abilities, depending on the situation you are in.
Multiple Stuns can be used on a single enemy in succession as a way of "Stun Locking" an enemy. A Stun Lock (also called Stunlocking) is the act of using multiple stuns and immobilizing effects in succession to prevent an enemy from fighting back or escaping. While traveling with allies, one or two players may stun enemies, while the other 2 players deal damage to the Stun Locked enemies. This technique will be especially useful during Boss Fights.
Stuns can also be used in a Defensive manner when encountering enemies. If you are low on health, you can quickly stun nearby enemies, escape and then heal yourself before getting back into battle. Monks, for example, will rely on stuns and dodging more heavily than the Barbarian, as the Monk cannot absorb as much Melee damage as the Barbarian. Stun is an effective type of Control Impairing Effect that is extremely important, especially after Normal Difficulty.
