 How To Play Diablo 3

Diablo 3 General Description/Overview
Diablo 3 is a dark MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) that is based on Solo and Cooperative play. You will kill monsters, complete quests, craft equipment and much more in this demon and monster infested world.

Not only that, you can also also play with, trade with and battle against fellow Diablo 3 players. There is both an in-game currency Auction House for buying and selling items and gold, as well as a Real Money Auction House for buying and selling with actual Real World Money. Diablo 3 is one of the few games that has this feature.

Diablo 3 Controls
Make sure you have a mouse because this is the only way you can play Diablo 3. Click to move, click to pick up items, click to use Skills and kill monsters; the Diablo Series is notorious for relying on the basic Mouse controls of right and left-clicking. There will be no WASD Movement Controls in Diablo 3, so if you want to play Diablo 3 you have to use a mouse.

Diablo 3 Classes
Make your own unique Character from the five Class options, the Barbarian, Demon Hunter, Monk, Witch Doctor or Wizard. Each Class has its own strengths and weaknesses that you should take into account before making a new character.

Generally the Barbarian deals damage with close ranged attacks, the Demon Hunter is best when firing at a distance, the Monk relies on speed, stuns and dodging, the Witch Doctor can summon undead creatures for support and the Wizard uses ranged elemental spells including Arcane, Fire, Cold and Lightning.

Leveling Up In Diablo 3
As it is in most MMORPGs, gaining experience (Exp) and leveling up is the main way to make your character more powerful. You can gain experience by killing monsters, completing quests, doing bonus quests and by chaining together Killstreaks (Also See How To Level Up Fast).

With each Level Up you will automatically gain a certain number of Attribute points that will automatically be distributed to each of the 4 Attribute categories. The increases in specific Attributes will depend on your character's Class. Also with each level up you unlock new Skills as well as new Runestone Effect choices for your available Skills.

Diablo 3 Skills & Runestone Effects
You will start off Diablo 3 with only a few basic Active Skills and Skill Slots. As you progress you will gain access to Active and Passive Skills for your character. You will be able to choose a mix of 6 Active and 3 Passive Skills at any one time and ultimately find which Skill build works best for you.

In addition to your basic Active and Passive Skills, you will have the option to use a different Runestone Effect for each Active Skill you use. This Runestone Effect system makes Diablo 3 very unique, as there are over 2.8 Trillion total character builds that can ultimately be made. See Runestone Effects, for more information about the unique Diablo 3 Runestone Effect Skill System.

Diablo 3 Solo & Group Play
You can play by yourself, with friends or with a group of strangers. What makes Diablo 3 fun is that you can play it in any style or way that you want to. The game is divided up by Acts (1-4) and 4 Difficulties (Normal, Nightmare, Hell and Inferno). To essentially "beat the game" you will have to beat all four Acts in each of the four Difficulties.

It is possible to solo the entire Diablo 3 game, but it is very difficult, especially when you reach Hard and Inferno Difficulties. Playing as a team and sharing bonus effects can really help in defeating the major bosses and elite mob groups that you will come across. Play as a team or play by yourself, Diablo 3 gives you tons of gameplay options. Note: You need an internet connection to play as there is no Offline Mode in Diablo 3.

Note: These names just characterize the different styles of gameplay in Diablo 3, and are not the actual names of any characters or players (Eg Roleplayer, Auctioneer).

Different Ways To Play Diablo 3

The Roleplayer
This person enjoys the storyline and Lore of Diablo 3. He or she will take more time reading the dialogue of between characters and NPCs. The Roleplayer cares more about getting into the story of Diablo 3 than any other aspect of the game. This player most likely has the Diablo III: Book of Cain and has read it cover to cover. The Roleplayer will really understand the true depth of Diablo 3.

The Speed Leveler
This player will level up his or her character faster than the majority of Diablo 3 player. The Speed Leveler will find the best and fastest ways to Level Up every Class. The most important thing to this player is efficiently gaining experience. The Expert Speed Levelers will likely write Professional Guides on How To Level Up Fast In Diablo 3.

The Auctioneer
Buying and Selling is the name of the game for the Auctioneer. This person spends most of his or her gaming time at the Auction House. The Auctioneer is always analyzing and tracking trends of the value of items and gold. This analysis is done in both the Gold Auction House and the Real Money Auction House. This player will make large amounts of Gold and even a substantial amount of Real Money.

The Gladiator
It is all about the PvP Arena with this Diablo 3 player. The Gladiator only cares about improving his or her character and slaying enemies in the Arena. This player wins mostly all matches in the PvP Arena and is always on top of the PvP Leaderboard.

The Salvager
Breaking down items into crafting materials is what the Salvager is known for. This player's inventory and stash is mostly filled with large amounts of crafting materials. When prices are high the Salvager trades or sells his or her materials on the Auction House. An expert in the prices of crafting materials, this player makes a decent amount of Gold and Real Money breaking down selling these materials.

The Crafter
With his or her Artisans completely leveled up, the Crafter has access to every Recipe in the game. This player will buy Crafting Materials in large amounts from the Auction House and create powerful weapons and armor. The Crafter will sell his or her created items on the market for a substantial profit, from players who cannot afford to max out their Artisans. The Salvager is usually the Crafter's best friend.

Mix
The above ways to play Diablo 3 are really extremes. Most players will do a mix of the above, while focusing more on aspects of the game they enjoy the most. After a few playthroughs, it is likely that more Diablo 3 players will start specializing in a particular area. It is also likely that many more people will start battling in the PvP Arena as they reach max level and get more powerful gear.

Different Styles of Playing Diablo 3

Lone Wolf
This player plays all aspects of the game solo. The Lone Wolf salvages, crafts, adventures etc. by his or her self. This style of play makes this player an expert in survivability and he or she can be very difficult to kill. The Lone Wolf lives alone, fights alone and dies alone.

Team Player
This player prefers to play with a group. He or she mainly uses Skills that give bonuses to allies and provides excellent support. The team player knows many group strategies, which is very important in PvP Arena battles. Chatting with others, helping other players and group play is what the Team Player is all about.

The Light Switch
This player's style depends on his or her mood. The Light Switch can play in a group, but gets easily annoyed when playing with Newbies or people who don't really understand the game. This player will often jump between solo and cooperative play throughout each gaming session.

Hardcore Player
The baddest of the bad, the Hardcore Player risks everything while playing Diablo 3. This player loves the extra danger that Hardcore Mode brings to the table. With a single death, the Hardcore Player is lost forever. This player must have a fast and reliable internet connection, as a simple disconnect can lead to his or her demise. Only the bravest and most skilled Diablo 3 players have high level Hardcore Characters.

All in all, you can really play Diablo 3 in any way that you want to. The categories above are just examples of the different ways people can play Diablo 3. In its most basic form, Diablo 3 is just a click to move and click to kill game. However, the systems in place for Diablo 3 make it extremely complex and difficult, especially in the later stages of the game. If you want hundreds of fast-paced hours of gameplay filled with Trillions of different combinations and difficult choices to make, then Diablo 3 is your game.
